The 2023 Social Justice Awards
We're still riding high from the 2023 Social Justice Awards Gala, where we had the pleasure of honoring Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and Steven Pico, the lead plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case on book banning.
This year’s theme, "Stand with the Banned," recognized outspoken trailblazers who fight against censorship and book banning. The gala was marked by powerful moments, including the illuminating conversation between longtime First Amendment advocate Christie Hefner and our esteemed honorees. Together, we delved into the critical issues surrounding censorship and the alarming rise of book banning in our country.
The New Press Social Justice Awards offer a pause from the busy publishing work we do year-round as we recognize leading social justice activists who believe in the power of books and culture to bring about positive change in the world. The 2023 Social Justice Awards took place at The Rosenthal Pavilion at the NYU Kimmel Center in New York City on November 16, 2023.
