Social Justice Awards

In 2010 The New Press presented the first New Press Social Justice Award to author and activist Alice Walker for her remarkable ability to use words to bring about truth and social change. Now an annual tradition, the awards are given out at The New Press's fall cocktail benefit, and to date have recognized the work of twelve leading social justice activists who hold a belief in the power of books and culture to bring about positive change in the world.

 


 

(2017) BRYAN STEVENSON was honored for his work, through the Equal Justice Initiative, in confronting racial injustice, advicating for equality, and creating hope for marginalized communities.

In conversation with Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow, and a special performance by Sarah Jones, Tony and Obie-Award winning playwright and actress.
