JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN GET MARRIED DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD.

Out Professionals presents leading gay rights attorney Elizabeth F. Schwartz, author of Before I Do: A Legal Guide to Marriage, Gay and Otherwise. In conversation with Bradley Jacobs, Schwartz considers what our marriage rights may look like under this new administration. And what we can do to protect ourselves right now.Schwartz spells out the range of practical considerations a couple needs to address before tying the knot—from name changes and getting a license, to taxes, insurance and Social Security. She lays out the rights marriage provides and those it does not. Anyone in a relationship needs to read Before I Do. Using real-world examples, Liz takes you through estate planning, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and the organization of finances. Schwartz’s new book carries a moving afterword by Jim Obergefell, the lead plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court case that made marriage equality the law of the land. Bradley Jacobs talked with Jim and his “Love Wins” co-author Debbie Cenziper at Out Professionals in June.
