Matthew Desmond, a 2015 MacArthur genius winner and author of Evicted, hails Peter Edelman’s Not a Crime to Be Poor: The Criminalization of Poverty in America as “lucid and troubling.” The book is part of aChronicle of Higher Education roundup of recommended reads, which also includes the recently published The Dawn of Detroit by Tiya Miles. The Guardian and The Nation published excerpts from Not a Crime to Be Poorand the Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee named the book as one of “10 books to read after you’ve read Evicted.”
