Not a Crime to Be Poor Honored by RFK Awards

Peter Edelman and his current New Press book, Not a Crime to Be Poor: The Criminalization of Poverty in America, were recently included as part of the 2018 Robert F. Kennedy Book & Journalism Awards. Edelman, who worked for the late senator from 1964-1968, is a leading expert in the fields of poverty, welfare, and juvenile justice and teaches constitutional law at Georgetown University Law Center. In honor of RFK Human Rights’ 50th anniversary, Edelman will be presented with a Special Recognition for Not a Crime to Be Poor at a ceremony on May 22 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Not a Crime to Be Poor was also nominated for the 2018 Silver Gavel Awards for Media and the Arts by the American Bar Association. The Awards recognize outstanding work that fosters the American public’s understanding of the law and legal system. The winners will be announced on May 23.
