Over the past decade Georgia State University has taken an innovative data-driven approach to transform the prospects of lower-income, minority and first-generation students.  Investigative journalist Andrew Gumbel’s new book Won’t Lose This Dream (winner of the Decatur Book Festival's 2020 Judy Turner Award) recounts that transformation and tells the extraordinary, often heart-wrenching personal stories of students fighting against an education system that, for too long, has been pitted against them. Author Andrew Gumbel, Georgia State alum and academic advisor Cary Claiborne, and former student Tyler Mulvenna discuss race, class, education, their personal journeys, and how—even in a pandemic—we can dream of a fairer, more meritocratic future.
