Stephen J. Rose

Stephen J. Rose is a research professor at the George Washington Institute of Public Policy and writes the “Counterintuition” column for Republic 3.0. He has been a research professor and senior economist at the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, where he studied the interactions between formal education, training, career movements, and earnings. His book-and-poster set Social Stratification in the United States: The American Profile Poster, originally published in 1978, is now in its seventh edition. Rose previously held senior positions at the Educational Testing Service, the U.S. Department of Labor, the Joint Economic Committee, the National Commission for Employment Policy, and the Washington State Senate. His commentaries have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and other print and broadcast media.
