Stephanie Smith is deputy director and chief curator at the David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago. She also serves as an affiliate member of the University of Chicago’s department of visual arts, a founding member of its Open Practice Committee, and a contributing editor of the international art journal Afterall. She curated the 2011 exhibit Vision and Communism: Viktor Koretsky and Dissident Public Visual Culture and co-edited (with Robert Bird, Christopher P. Heuer, Matthew Jesse Jackson, and Tumelo Mosaka) the accompanying book from The New Press. She has written for the international contemporary art journal Parkett and is a regular contributor to Afterall.
