A prolific poet, novelist, and essayist, Phillip Lopate is the director of the nonfiction graduate program at Columbia University, where he also teaches writing. He has been awarded numerous prizes, including a Christopher Medal for Being with Children (The New Press). He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
