Michael A. Bellesiles is a visiting professor at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. The author of numerous books on American history—including 1877 and A People’s History of the U.S. Military, both published by The New Press—Bellesiles received his BA from the University of California–Santa Cruz in 1975 and his PhD from the University of California at Irvine in 1986. He lives in Connecticut.
