The Lines Between Us: American Segregation Since the Fair Housing Act with author Lawrence Lanahan

The racist policies that segregated 20th Century America—redlining, restrictive covenants, and much more—are well-known. Why does segregation persist five decades after the Fair Housing Act? Join us for a discussion with author Lawrence Lanahan. Lanahan’s new book The Lines Between Us: Two Families and a Quest to Cross Baltimore's Racial Divide uses narrative nonfiction to show how segregation and inequality reasserted themselves in the Baltimore region from the 1970s up to the death of Freddie Gray…and beyond. The Lines Between Us is a lens for looking at a place, and the policies and practices Lanahan describes in the book will be familiar in any American metropolitan region. After Lanahan reads from his book, he will be interviewed and take questions from the audience. The Lines Between Us will be available for sale, and Lanahan will sign books after the event.
