In MIGRATING TO PRISON: America’s Obsession with Locking Up Immigrants (The New Press; on sale Dec. 3; Hardcover; $24.99), University of Denver law professor—and the U.S.-born child of Mexican immigrants, raised in the Texas border city of McAllen, and a frequent visitor to immigration prisons—César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández takes a hard look at the immigration prison system’s origins, how it currently operates, why the system has evolved this way—and why we as a nation must change this practice and close all immigration prisons.
The Harris County Democratic Lawyers Association will provide a wine and cheese reception before this event beginning at 4:00pm.
