Washington DC

Former PBS education correspondent John Merrow will speak about his new book ADDICTED TO REFORM: A 12-Step Program to Rescue Public Education in which he argues that current school reform efforts focus too heavily on symptoms rather than on the root cause of our problems: an antiquated approach to schooling using outdated standards like graduation rates and testing. Merrow proposes a learner-centered system, instead, drawing on his four-decade-long reporting career at NPR and PBS and his experience both as a high school teacher and college professor. Lily Eskelsen Garcia, President of the National Education Association, will introduce John Merrow and moderate the Q&A following his talk. This event will be filmed by C-SPAN.
