Bryant Simon, professor of history at Temple University, will discuss his new book The Hamlet Fire: A Tragic Story of Cheap Food, Cheap Government, and Cheap Lives, a vivid social autopsy of a fire that swept through the Imperial Food Product plant in the 1970s and shows how cheap labor, deregulation, and food came ignited tragedy. He will appear on a panel moderated by Scuppernong Books owner Brian Lampkin with authors Jared Yates Sexton, Anthony Ray Hinton, Karen Cox, and Liza Mundy.
